Company history
With an innovative idea intended to offer people an alternative to traditional auto repair options John began Excel Tech Mobile Repair Corporation in the Spring of 1995. He acquired a 12 foot step van, installed an air compressor, work benches, tools and diagnostic equipment. That summer and winter he traveled to customers homes or business to service and/or repair their vehicles. The winter of 95'/96' we had record breaking temperatures and 106" of snow. He began praying that God would open the doors to a location. Thinking he could afford 1 maybe 2 bays in an industrial area the search began. God had another plan altogether! In May 1996 God opened the flood gates of heaven and provided financing from an unexpected source and we went into contract for a Texaco station, with a white picket fence, on Main Street in Islip. Main Street Texaco opened for business in October 1996. The team began with John, Peggy, John's sister-in-law, and Gregor. Business was difficult at first. We couldn't find any dependable gas attendants and because the old owner had a bad reputation in the community the repair bays were very slow. John began to question whether he had missed God on this one! By April some influential people in the community had checked us out and before long Main Street Texaco made a radical turn around. Business continued that way for the following 3 years and we were getting pretty comfortable. We enjoyed a good reputation in the community, thank God, and as a result we saw steady increases in productivity. Then came the shocker in February 2000. Texaco corporate decided they were going to increase our rent substantially. As John crunched the numbers it became clear we would not be able to continue doing business at Main Street Texaco any longer. We prayed for Gods' intervention and began looking for a new location. We searched for a few months and were not able to find anything we could afford or that was close enough to our old location. Finally we found a building on Sunrise Hwy. less than a mile from our old spot and financially within reason. It was truly an answer to prayer. We went to contract and began the arduous process of purchasing and renovating SONRISE AUTOMOTIVE. We moved in and began operations June 26, 2001. We have been well received in the Islip community with a steady flow of new customers in addition to maintaining our old customers. We are very grateful to all of our customers and to Almighty God for blessing SONRISE. THANK YOU The Sonrise Automotive Team
